Local Dog Events
Colorado is a great state for doing things and going places with your dog. This section is for helping people know what events are available to them that are outside the umbrella of the club.

Club Meetings
The Mile High Weimaraner Club meets about 6 to 8 times a year. Club members meet to discuss upcoming events, Weim related items, and are great ways to meet fellow Weim owners. We welcome people who are interested in finding out more about the club to join us during the pre-meeting social time. Joining the club is a great way to meet people who share your love for the breed as well as making a difference for the breed.

Hunt Tests

Chuck, Shelly & Dakota Jernigan
During a hunt test, dogs are judged against a standard. This allows for every dog the ability to pass their particular level. Hunt tests are also exclusively done on foot. The three AKC titles that can be awarded are a JH (Junior Hunter), SH (Senior Hunter), and MH (Master Hunter). For a JH title, a dog must have four qualifying runs. Junior Hunters are judged on Hunting, Bird Finding, Pointing and Trainability. The judging scale is from 0-10. The average score for the four categories must total seven or higher and no single score can be below a four. Senior Hunter and Master Hunter tests include judging for Retrieving and Honoring.

Conformation Shows
The most widely known AKC event is the Dog Show, where the emphasis is on conformation. Dogs are examined by a judge, then placed accordingly, in the judge's opinion, to how they compare to their breed standard. Show dogs compete for points toward their championship (Ch) title. To become an official AKC champion of record, a dog must earn a total of 15 points, which includes 2 major wins under 2 different judges. A "major" is 3, 4, or 5 points won all at once. The number of points earned at any given show is determined by the number of dogs that compete at that show, and the AKC publishes a Point Schedule for each geographical Division.
The AKC has a great Beginner's Guide to Dog Shows that is very helpful for first-timers.

Field Trials
Field trial participants are judged against other dogs as well as against the standard. The best at completing the standard when compared to the other participants may be put up for the ribbons. Field trials can be participated on horse as well as by foot or just by foot when this is designated.
The AKC has a wealth of knowledge regarding the history and continuation of these events.

WCA Ratings Test
Weimaraner Club of America Ratings Tests
The following standards for shooting dog and retrieving dog ratings are for use in rating the hunting and field ability of individual Weimaraners, to be used as a permanent record for purposes of breeding, advertising, etc., after confirmation from WCA. These ratings will show the degree of training the dog has been able to achieve.
The ratings are divided into two separate classifications: one covering pointing and upland bird field work, and the other covering retrieving. The two classifications are completely independent from, and not related to each other. However, a dog showing outstanding ability by obtaining degrees in both classifications would be greatly desired.
